skowt.cc

skowt.cc is a free game asset database that has run since 2022, previously wanderer.moe. Search by what you remember, not by filename.

What it is

Game assets used to live in other people’s Google Drives: slow downloads, no search, and everything scattered across a dozen Discord pins. skowt.cc is one place for all of it. Contributors upload assets, a lot of them from gacha games, and other people pull them back down, often a few hundred at once. Free, source-available, no ads.

It has run since 2022, first as a raw file index, then as wanderer.moe, now as skowt, on the same database the whole way through. As of writing that’s around 43,000 assets across 23 games, with 27 million-plus downloads and 190 million-plus views, and somewhere between 100,000 and 300,000 people using it in a given month.

Nobody remembers a filename. They remember the blue hair, and that it was from that one game. So search here answers “does anyone know an asset with…” rather than IMG_4471.png: every asset has a caption and a set of tags written by a vision model, plus an image embedding, and a description query is answered by both at once. The architecture post goes through how.

It’s built by dromzeh, who started it at 15, plus a small group of contributors who handle fan-made assets, file sourcing, translations and feature requests. skowt predates Antifield and is the place things get tried on real people first.

Stack

A monorepo. The frontend is TanStack Start on React 19, talking to an Elysia process on Bun through a typed tRPC client. better-auth handles Discord sign-in, Drizzle sits over libSQL hosted on Turso, and Redis holds sessions, rate-limit windows and download batches.

Files live in Cloudflare R2. A Worker on pack.skowt.cc serves image variants from the edge and refuses anything it doesn’t recognise, and uploads and downloads go through presigned URLs, so the API process is never in the byte path. Captions and embeddings come from one GPU image on serverless hardware that scales to zero between uploads. Observability is wide events and OpenTelemetry traces into Better Stack.

Earlier versions were SvelteKit and Next.js on Cloudflare Pages, with Hono and itty-router on Workers behind them. Each rewrite kept the data and threw away the rest.
